Backchat Fliers
Goals
Develop a cohesive visual identity and promotional materials for *Back Chat*, a multi-event DJ and music series held in an upstairs event space at a Jamaican restaurant — blending vintage and futuristic elements to match the event’s playful and genre-blurring spirit.
Contributions
Created a consistent branding system across five *Back Chat* events. Designed visual concepts built around the metaphor of naysayers and back-channel chatter, featuring vintage telephones as the primary motif. Combined these with futuristic, cyborg-inspired visual treatments referencing techno and Geiger-like styles. Experimented with early AI image generation tools to source and remix vintage phone imagery, incorporating glitch effects and layered textures. Produced both static and animated promotional assets, applying color shifts, glitch animations, and warped typography across event flyers and video content. Maintained a unified design language while adapting individual materials to highlight changing DJ lineups.
Outcomes
Established a visually distinctive and thematically consistent identity for the *Back Chat* event series. Helped build community engagement around a smaller, underground event space. Advanced personal experimentation with AI image generation and glitch animation techniques. Contributed to a series of well-received events that combined playful visual branding with a forward-thinking music experience.
